    1940’s Classic Comics: Katy Keene

As a young girl, my Grandma’s house was so fascinating to me. There were so many old photograph’s, paintings by family, Archie Comics, and Katy Keene paper dolls.

I had seen Katy Keene in several of the comics she had and always LOVE the classic style Katy Keene displayed. Such elegance, beauty, and grace.  Katy Keene was born in summer 1945 in the Wilbur comic, and was in many of the Archie Comics during the 1940’s. My Aunt told me that my Grandma would draw dresses for the Katy Keene paper doll. Katy’s  comics encouraged  readers to share original drawings of outfits and accessories for her and her friends to wear. Many of the designs for automobiles, homes, interiors, rocket ships, trailers and boats were also drawn by fans.  Katy and Archie Comics are my favorite way to relax. What are your favorite Comics?

    1940 Census Project

ON APRIL 2, 2012, NARA will provide access to the images of the 1940 United States Federal Census for the first time. Unlike previous census years, images of the 1940 U.S. Federal Census will be made available as free digital images.

I received an email that the 1940 Census will have  a joint venture between many Genealogy Organizations. Archives.com, FamilySearch, findmypast.com, and other leading genealogy organizations, will organize resources to provide quick access to these digital images and immediately start indexing these records to make them searchable online with free and open access. You can become part of the Volunteer Project at The 1940 Census.

The projects  now available to help you learn how the indexing software works and to help you train for the release of the 1940 US federal census on April 2. These projects include the following:

    • Iowa 1895 State Census
    • New York 1855 State Census
    • WWI Draft Registration Cards (multiple states)
    • WWII Draft Registration Cards (multiple states)
    • US Passenger Lists (multiple states)
