• Share your memories with family

One of the main barriers family historians face is sharing information. Most of us have family all over the States and even World, and for my Grandma she would have to rely on snail mail, and then towards the end email. Which in my experience is the least reliable source of sharing your families history. My Grandma was always forwarding everything she received, so I had set up an account with Hotmail and Netscape to receive all her forwards. I thought that I would have access forever to those files. I was very wrong, both servers deleted everything. Now I back things up, and have found a more reliable resource for sharing, a way that I can instantly save on a thumb drive. Dropbox is the best way to share files from your computer to a family members, and it is free. You would zip your photos, or pedigree chart and place it in the file you are sharing through Dropbox with your family.

This is the way your dropbox page will look. You will have access on your PC and on their site.

  • Creating a Twitter Cover

Twitter now has an option to create your own header. When you go to your profile account you can now select to not only edit your photo, but also your new header.

After selecting edit another screen will give you more options, one will be to change your header.

The new cover measurements are 1252×626, to create using My Memories software you would open a new album and select design your own page

Select Landscape, and custom size 1252 by 626

once you have selected your size, you can add any designs you wish. You can even resize any page you have already created to create the new header. Then you will save the new creation, and upload in the new Twitter header section by selecting Choose existing image from your computer.

  • Flip pal Sketch Kit special

    “A Sketch in Time!”
Purchase a Flip-Pal mobile scanner and get a Flip-Pal mobile scanner Sketch Kit FREE!, valid January 3-March 31. Please place items in your shopping cart first, then use promotion code: SKETCH13.

I love my little flip pal, it is tiny enough to go with me anywhere and yet powerful enough to capture the beauty of the photos I scan. I keep it near my laptop at all times, as a busy mom of 4 kids, working from home and homeschooling, this gadget has really been a plus. Takes less than a minute to scan any picture, and have on my laptop for the my Genealogy Project. I scanned this photo of my Grandparents at my Great Grandparents house around 1949 last fall while I was visiting my Aunt. The photo is 63 years old, my Aunt is the adorable baby in this photo. The scan was great, but the photo had been damaged a lot. After using Photo Elements 10 I was able to clear it up a lot to see the faces and even photos in the background. When handling old photos be sure to use Archival Methods White Nylon Gloves Medium, Package of 12, it helps avoid finger prints as the ones shown in the after edit. I also use Verbatim 96319 700 MB 52x UltraLife Archival Grade Gold Recordable Disc CD-R, 5-Disc Jewel Case to store my finished photos. Archival CDs and DVDs last longer because they are made of Gold.
